Another interesting, four-screenshot sequence of myself (and another player, a thief), fighting a bandit scout. Note in the third shot that the illusionary copy of my character appears to have just taken a hit from the enemy. This is one of the biggest advantages of mesmers IMO, that their illusions and phantasms can draw enemy fire away from you (though I’m given to understand that this is more so in PvE than PvP). Also, in screenshots 2 and 3, the indicator shows that 3 copies of my character are active and in combat, but for some reason only one is visible.
I don’t think I posted this one yet. It’s an interesting shot of my mesmer fighting with the aid of a couple of illusionary copies of herself.

Susanna of Karlana is a tall, blonde, sky-blue-eyed female Human mesmer who comes out of the ranks of the aristocracy in the Krytan capital of Divinity’s Reach. Her name is inherited directly from her famous ancestor, the first Susanna, who came from a small village named Karlana on the coast of Istan, a large island off the southwestern coast of the Elonian continent. That first Susanna of Karlana was also a mesmer, a widely-traveled adventurer who rose through the ranks of the Sunspears (Istan’s combination army and police force) and played a key part in frustrating the plan of the renegade god Abaddon to escape his prison in the Realm of Torment by bringing the so-called “Nightfall” upon the world. A few years later, she traveled in the company of several other renowned Elonian heroes to the far northlands of Tyria, where she helped defeat the invasion of the Destroyers, little knowing at the time that they were but the heralds of a far greater threat to all Tyria…
Some sixty years after the events of Nightfall, the infamous undead warlord Palawa Joko resumed his campaign of conquest, damming the Elon River and forcing the surrender of the Three Provinces to his tyranny. The first Susanna, by now a retired Spearmarshal full of years and honors, an Istani noble and the matriarch of one of Istan’s great trading families, saw the handwriting on the wall and, in her last great adventure, organized the evacuation of thousands of Istani, Kournans and Vabbians across the great oceans northward to Tyria. Under her leadership and that of other Sunspears and heroes of Elona who joined her, and eventually that of her descendants, the Elonian refugees made good their escape from Joko’s hordes and settled in Kryta, eventually congregating in the great metropolis of Divinity’s Reach.
250 years later, her namesake, an idealistic, enthusiastic young woman, has taken up the scepter of the mesmer and stands on the hills overlooking the village of Shaemoor. Susanna, boasting a full share of her many-times-great-grandmother’s blonde beauty, is possessed of a striking sense of elegance and tremendous charm, able to negotiate her way out of any sticky situation with her winning ways. (And when charm doesn’t work, her trusty arsenal of scepters, staves, swords, greatswords and pistols will do her talking for her.) She has a decidedly whimsical streak and has occasionally commented that her great regret in life is never having taken the plunge and joined a traveling circus as a performing mentalist.
Inheriting the Istani tradition of open-minded cosmopolitianism, she is notably free of the anti-Charr prejudice that afflicts so many Krytans, and has declared to several of her friends that one of her first aims on her travels is to visit the Black Citadel, mighty fortress of the Iron Legion, and see for herself the mechanical wonders that the Charr are building there; her ancestor knew and adventured with the great Charr revolutionary Pyre Fierceshot. Susanna is also eager to visit the lands of the Norn and the Asura, which her forebear also sojourned in, and the home of that newest of Tyria’s great races, the Sylvari. Like many other mesmers, Susanna is said to have been “touched by Lyssa”, though, knowing the long silence of the Six Gods, she is just slightly skeptical, though still keeping her own counsel. (Fascinatingly, her legendary ancestor actually knew Kormir, the Goddess of Truth, when she was but Spearmarshal Kormir, commander of the Sunspears. The tales of Kormir passed down from generation to generation, and the stories of the battle against Abaddon and the distinctly hands-off attitude of the other Five Gods, have made Susanna less than totally trusting in the power of “immortal beings”.)
As Susanna stands on that hillside, hands on hips, she hears the clash of arms and the shouting of Seraph warriors and Tamini Centaur raiders from within the beleaguered village of Shaemoor. It seems that some people could really use a bit of help…

Simply for purposes of comparison, on the left you see my “experimental” mesmer at level 28 as of the end of BWE2, before she and my other characters at that time were wiped by ANet, and on the right you see the “final” design of my mesmer at level 1. EDIT: Loaded the wrong picture first time around, corrected it with the current shot on the left.

Screenshots of the options that I chose for my Human female mesmer. I’m satisfied with most of them except for the “biggest regret” one; I might just go back to “never joined the circus”, which was the option that I chose for my experimental mesmer way back in BWE 1/2. (BTW, I dislike the initial mesmer mask designs, so I’m going to go with the helm-hidden option until I either get a drop with a mask that I like or buy/craft one.)

Various views of the latest version of my Human female mesmer design. I’m expending more effort on this char than my others so far, it’s true, but this is because she’s going to be my main character, at least in the early going, and the namesake of my GW1 mesmer char.
OK, so I’ve come up with three different versions of my mesmer, differing mainly in the hairstyle/hair color. Personally, I think I like the third option the best, since the coiffure has the “fancy” overtone that seems right for someone with a noble background. What do you think?
